Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a doula if I'm giving birth in the hospital?

Doulas are for all births. I support hospital births, birth center births, and home births. You can benefit from doula support if you plan to go unmedicated, if you want an epidural as soon as you step into the hospital, or if you have a c section. It is my responsibility to hold space for exactly what you need in the moment. If going unmedicated at home, that might look more like physical comfort measures and breathing techniques. If you have pain medication, I can take on more of an advocacy role, help you get into good positions, and support your partner.

Is a postpartum doula the same thing as a night nurse or night nanny?

The term "baby nurse" should be used to refer to a registered nurse who is hired to take care of baby, usually with special medical needs. A night nanny is a person that usually has childcare experience who watches the baby overnight. A postpartum doula has training and experience in postpartum care for parents as well as newborn care.

How is a doula different from my partner, friend, or mom?

A doula leaves all bias at the door. I do not come into your birth or postpartum space with my own agenda or opinions. I offer evidence-based care and it is always my goal to make sure you feel confident in making the decisions that feel right to you. I give this same support to your partner.

Do you offer payment plans?

I want to make my services as accessible as possible. I am always willing to set up payment plans and scholarships. Please reach out to me if finances are an issue.
